Last spring I was walking home and I passed a young boy with a table on a corner. A sign hanging down from the table read, “Art for Sale.”
I am not prone to ignore an art installation or a pop up gallery and so I approached the table and saw three pieces of art.
I asked how the business was going and he said he had sold two pieces. I asked if he was the artist and he said yes. I then asked if he would like to be an artist when he is older and he said yes.
I told him that my father was a business owner and had been an art major in college so I support any artist making money.
I then asked if his parent was nearby and he got his dad. The dad was lovely and I asked if he knew about the Art Magnet at Fairfax high. He said he did and they were interested in it as well as some other LAUSD schools. But we agreed they still had time since their son, the artist, is only in 4th grade.
I told the artist, “Remember you can make money as an artist”.
And I bought the painting.
Absolutely love it.
